This year, Luxilon Industries celebrates its 50th anniversary. They are among the top manufacturers of monofilaments in the world. Their customer bases range from the medical industry to aerospace facilities. They are most well known for manufacturing high tech tennis strings that are used by 40 of the game's top 100 players and have been endorsed by commentators such as Jim Courier and John McEnroe. They are credited as being the first manufacturer of tennis strings. Coinciding with their anniversary, Luxilon has also released a new tennis string called the M2, which has a cooling effect.
Luxilon strings are known for their durability. They are also resistant to warmth, moisture, atmospheric conditions and tend not to move once they've been woven into place. Luxilon tennis strings were the official tennis string of the Association of Tennis Professionals from 2002 to 2007. It remains the number one string used on tour. Big Banger strings by Luxilon are the official tennis strings used by the Women's Tennis Association. The new M2 combines monofilament with multifilament in order to produce a racquet string with a soft feel for touch shots, that remains firm enough for hard hits.
There is some criticism, however, that states that while Luxilon tennis strings may be good for the professional, they are not necessarily good for the beginner tennis player. An article written by Dan Mastous for Expert Tennis Tips claims that the reason that these tennis strings are so popular with the pros is because of the “dead feel” it provides, so that players are able to hit the ball as hard as they desire but still maintain control. A beginner with a weaker technique and swing would not produce the same result.
