In Palm Beach, Florida there is a tennis tournament like no other you have ever experienced. This tournament was formed and is held annually by a record holding woman tennis player named Chris Evert. Her name at birth was given as Christine Marie Evert. Chris went on to be named the "Ice Maiden" of the 1970s and mid 80s. Chris Evert brings some pretty awesome people together; professional tennis players, celebrities, and people of interest to play matches as tennis doubles. Chris is responsible for the pairings and when the group of four players wins a match there is a lot of back patting. New matches go on; however, no single match or its players are declared an overall winner. There are no trophies given out. A black tie dinner and a special chance to play with Chris is the catch prize for special donations. The event has raised more than 5 million dollars over the years. That is impressive for sure. All that money for having fun!
One of the interesting events in Chris Evert's life includes 125 consecutive wins on clay courts. Her cool attitude when on the court has earned her a couple of nicknames. Her marriage to Andy Mill ended in divorce after having three sons. Prior to this marriage she was married to John Lloyd and took the name of Chris Evert Lloyd. They divorced in 1987.
The facing of Martina Navratilova over 80 times in her career pushed Chris to the forefront of women's tennis during the late 70s. Retired since 1989, Chris commentates for NBC. Chris Evert holds 157 single titles, won the French Open seven times, 18 Grand Slam singles titles which included winning the US Open six times, Wimbledon three times and Australian Open twice.
