Andre Agassi was born on April 29, 1970 in Las Vegas, Nevada. His father taught him tennis from an early age. At 13 years old, he was sent to Bradenton, Florida, where he was coached by Nick Bollettieri at his tennis academy. After having enough of being mentored, in 1986, Andre turned pro at the age of 16. Soon after, he won Wimbledon in 1992. Andre then chose Brad Gilbert as his new coach and proceeded to win two grand slams and a gold medal in the Olympics.
Agassi married actress Brooke Shields in 1997 and gave up tennis throughout the duration of the marriage. After their divorce in 1999, he made a big comeback, ending up at the number one rank in the world. In that same year, he won all four Grand Slams. He is the fifth player to accomplish such a thing. In 2001, Andre took in over $23 million in winnings. He also married German tennis star Steffi Graf. They currently have two children.
After being aligned with Nike for 17 years, Agassi signed on with Adidas in 2005. However, he went on to retire from tennis in September of 2006 due to the pain from chronic injuries after 20 years of playing professionally. Agassi is the only male player to win the Grand Slam on all three main surfaces in tennis: clay, grass and hard court. Agassi still gets involved in charity tournaments and founded his own back in 1994. The Andre Agassi Charitable Association helps disadvantaged children throughout southern Nevada.
