Roger Federer

Roger Federer was born in Basel, Switzerland on August 8, 1981. He plays tennis right handed. He became a professional tennis player in 1998. He speaks German, French, English and his first language is Swiss German. He is also seen doing his interviews in all four languages.

Federer started playing tennis at the early age of eight. When growing up, he followed his favorite tennis players which were Boris Becker and Pete Sampras. He was the number one junior of the world in 1988. He also won in the Wimbledon singles and tied with O. Rochus that year. He reached the finals at the U.S. Open with a SF in the Australian Open. He closed his junior career at the Orange Bowl. In 1999, his record was 35-11 with the Davis Cup and has 17 ties. His single career title totaled 57 wins. In the open era singles titles he tied for eighth. He holds many tennis titles. He won the three top prominent tournaments three times in 2004, 2006, and 2007. He has also won many awards throughout his career.

Federer has earned the second highest prize income of all time which was $10,130,620. This is right behind his idol, Pete Sampras, who was #1 with $43,280,489. Roger relaxes by being on the beach playing table tennis and cards. His wife, Mirka, was also a pro tennis player. They met at the Sydney Olympic Games in 2000. They married in Federer's hometown on April 11, 2009. This summer, they will become parents for the first time while living in Bottmingen, Switzerland.
