Pete Sampras played 15 years on the ATP Tour. During this time, he ended up with 64 titles in 92 career final matches. The breakdown of his 64 titles is, first and foremost, his 14 Grand Slam wins. The other titles are 2 Grand Slam Cups, 5 ATP World Championships, 11 Super 9/ATP Masters Series, 20 ATP Tour Matches, and 12 ATP Championship Series/ International Series Gold. His best surface was the hard courts even though he did well at Wimbledon on the grass.
At the end of his career, he moved from Florida and went back home near his family in Los Angeles. Shortly after moving back to Los Angeles, he married actress Bridgette Wilson. About 2 years into their marriage, they had a son named Christian. The following year is when Sampras announced his official retirement from the ATP tour. He didn't stay away from the game long though. In 2006, he decided to play competitively again. He played an exhibition match against Robby Ginepri. He has since played in other events with the latest being a win against John McEnroe in Boston and another win against Patrick Rafter in March.
Sampras released his biography on June 10, 2008, and this came as a shock to those who followed his career. Pete is generally a reserved guy and does not share much. Even though the media has followed his emotional ups and downs during his professional life, he rarely discussed it from his point of view. Sampras finally put out a tell all sort of book which is sure to be of interest to his fans.
