Understanding Points In Tennis

Does anyone out there understand the language of tennis? It is fun to look at, but do we really understand how the game is played and all of its rules? To begin, tennis is formed into games, matches and sets. For most of the major tennis tournaments that are played yearly, women will play two out of three sets while the men will play three out of five sets.

For the most part, the rules of tennis are simple; it’s the game that is complicated. Basically, the opponents stand on opposite sides of each other on the court. The player who stands across from the server is the receiver. The server has two chances to strike the ball, and if he/she misses, he/she then loses his point. The server must always announce his score first. Tennis scoring is compared to that of a clock. When the server gets his first score, he wins a score of 15. The second point is 30 and the third is 45. In tennis, love means zero.

There are many ways to make points in the game of tennis. When servers strike the ball and the opponent misses it, the server wins a point. If the opponent throws the ball out of bounds, touches the net during the game, hits the server’s body or commits a double fault, the server wins points. If after the opponent has been warned twice by a referee for any type of inappropriate behavior, the referee can award points.
