Lleyton Hewitt, a onetime number one ranked male tennis player was born in 1981 in South Australia and turned pro in 1998. During his career he has won two grand slam tournament titles, winning the US Open and Wimbledon. Both wins took place in 2001 and 2002. Since then, Hewitt has had to endure injury ridden seasons.
Despite his number one ranking in 2001, Hewitt has had to combat a hip injury for which he finally had surgery in 2008. His comeback thus far has been uneventful, and he is currently ranked 55th. Hewitt is an aggressive player who tends to not advance toward the net very often, opting instead to play back at the baselines. He tends to hit strong and is considered by many to be a bad sportsman. In fact, there is more about Hewitt and how much his peers on the tour dislike him as there is about his tennis play. However, Hewitt was part of two David cup teams who went on to win. He also won a Grand Slam doubles title at the US Open.
Hewitt has had four coaches thus far. This coaching and his own talent has made his jarring lob one of the very best ever in men’s tennis. He is also considered a very strong vollyer. He has begun to play again in 2009, and although he has not won yet, he seems to be returning to the form that he had when he help the number one ranking. Considering his young age, he has plenty of time to climb back up the ranking board.
