Caroline Wozniacki

The game of tennis is one of the most popular and most watched sports in many different places around the globe. When it comes to women's tennis, however, not many people know that many great players that are playing professionally. Of course there are names like Venus Williams, Serena Williams, and Maria Sharapova for example. But there are so many more great female tennis players on the pro tour that get overlooked. Caroline Wozniacki is one of these players that not many people have heard of, but who is a force on the court.

What is even more surprising about Wozniacki is her age. She is only 19 years old and is playing professional women's tennis. She is playing against the best competition in the world at her tender age, yet she has proven herself time and time again. Wozniacki was born in Odense, and has become the only Danish tennis player to ever break into the top 300 players in the world on the WTA. Not only has Wozniacki broken into the top 300 in the world, but she was currently rated the 10th best tennis player on earth in May of 2009.

Wozniacki has nothing but a bright future ahead of her. She has already become one of the dominant players on the WTA, and yet she is only 19 years old and not as experienced as other players as well. Once Wozniacki learns how to play the game of tennis with wisdom and gains experience through the WTA, she will certainly be one to watch.

Vera Zvonareva

The Russian-born professional tennis player, Vera Zvonareva, started playing when she was just six years old. She came from a sports oriented family and joined the WTA Tour in 2000 with a number six ranking from her past wins. During her first few years though, she had very unstable emotions during matches and came up short of the expectations of reaching the top ten list.

Her popularity actually started when she defeated Roland Garros in the 2002 tournament and then Venus Williams in 2003. Her second win with the WTA Tour in 2004 put her in the top ten world tennis players. The unfortunate year of 2005 however, placed her in the 42nd ranking with the WTA Tour. She lost the first half of her tournaments and also had some health problems.

Zvonareva decided she needed a drastic change in 2006. Her outfits, her tennis racket, and most importantly, her coach changed. She picked up Samuel Sumyk from Florida as her coach. Things picked up from there with her comeback game in Cincinnati defeating Katarina Srebotnik. Becoming more stable, she ranked number 24 and won the Wimbledon and the US Open titles. A wrist injury came in 2007 along with a ranking of 22nd. She used that time to complete her education in Russia. Her most successful year has been in 2008 with two tournament wins and a bronze medal in the Beijing Olympics and reaching the number seven ranking in singles.
